Yay the wait was worth it- the books have arrived for Earth Day and they are beautiful! All 26 endangered species rendered with a plethora of info and activities to strike wonder in the heart and mind as you color them in.
Last Friday I rushed to the bindery to pick up the books, hot off the press. I was fortunate enough to bring my Last Chance Earth coloring table to two Pittsburgh Earth Day events, in collaboration with Creatives for Climate group. This was a wonderful opportunity to test them out with children and some young adults too.
It was unanimous- all ages loved coloring them in!
Friday was an Earth Day festival at the Environmental Charter School. At my table, the Baobab tree, Axolotl and Okapi were some of their favorite images to color. I told them about the amazing abilities of the species they were coloring, showing them in the book. One child was particularly impressed by the Titan Arum, aka corpse flower. He told his parents and friends about it when they came over- “It grows to 10 feet tall, and it really stinks!! That’s how it attracts bugs”.
One sensitive child understood what ‘endangered’ meant. She asked about the Queen Alexandra Birdwing Butterfly- why was it endangered? I explained that it was because their habitat is getting smaller, and that people illegally sell them to collectors. She nodded her head seriously, considering it.
The coloring book and pages were also well received at the Pittsburgh Environmental center event the next day. I am so pleased that the art and book is already touching the minds of children and adults, opening them up to both the wonders of these species and the challenges in preserving them. This book will make a wonderful educational resource!
I will be sharing more in future, including a coloring contest and a store opening party coming right up (See events). Check out the online shop now open with the coloring books, guides, prints, downloadables and much more! Huge gratitude to you all once again for helping make this unique coloring book come to life!!
